ASHSP July 2024 Newsletter

Well, it has been a busy couple of months since our AGM and voting in the new (Old???) board.  I would like to thank all that were on the board last year for their hard work and happy that most decided to stick around to continue to help us move forward.

From the AGM, we identified a handful of action items that we need to address to move closer to being ready for the PRO application.

The first was bringing on an Executive Director. The need was identified and approved by the board to bring on a part-time Executive Director to help complete some higher-end functions and action items that we just weren’t succeeding at doing as a volunteer organization.

The ASHSP Board is pleased to introduce you to our new Executive Director, Christy Duban. Christy is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) who excels in fast-paced environments that demand strong organizational, coordination and interpersonal skills. In addition to her extensive association background, she has also worked with regulatory bodies in the inception, transition and implementation stages at both a provincial and national level. As an experienced leader with the proven ability to engage and inspire a team, Christy brings a clear vision of what excellence represents through applying strong analytical thought, determination, and leadership to drive change and create a culture of collaboration and innovation.

Next, for those of you that attended the HSPC Conference over the last week in Edmonton, you probably saw our booth as well as heard us mentioned in a few of the presentations.  There was a significant number of people that approached us and believe in what the ASHSP is trying to do.

An update on Bill 23 (The Professional Governance Act), and it looks like the window for application won’t open until 2025 now. The Government is committed to getting feedback from all the current PROs to ensure a strong bill is passed.

We are continuing to work towards being ready to apply as soon as the window for application is opened.

Lastly, you are probably wondering why you haven’t seen an invoice from us yet this year.  Well with the new action items identified as well as onboarding the new Executive Director, we have had some delays in getting the invoices out to you.

We anticipate that renewal invoicing will now take place before the end of July 2024.  To accommodate this delay and provide a seamless transition for our members, invoicing will be structured so that members pay for a portion of the current year as well as the full upcoming year.  This means that once payment is processed, your membership will be active and current until the end of the 2026 membership year, concluding on March 31, 2026.

If you aren’t a member and wish to become one, or are a member and wish to volunteer, please reach out to us at [email protected](Christy is using this email account).

We have lots of work that can get done in 2024 and 2025 to help make us successful.

Feedback is always welcome.

Jason Dent
