NOVEMBER 2023 ASHSP NEWSLETTER

Well, it has been a couple of months since our last update, and it has been a whirlwind.

The board has worked hard to finalize the Stakeholder Engagement Package as well as the Survey. A lot of great debate and discussion gathered to finalize a starting point for feedback on regulating Health and Safety Professionals in Alberta.

We officially launched the stakeholder feedback on Nov 16th, 2023 with emails going out to all of the Alberta Ministries. We have developed a schedule for emails to be delivered to various stakeholders and their members over the course of the next week.

As an ASHSP Member you will receive an e-mail for you to follow the links, to review the stakeholder engagement and complete the survey.

If you are not a member, we encourage you, as individual practitioners in Alberta, to go to our website. If you go to the ‘Resources & Links’ connection at the top of the page, it will take you to links to both the Stakeholder Engagement and the Survey.

We encourage everyone who has a stake in Alberta to provide us with feedback.  Remember, this is a starting point, and with the feedback we receive we will start step two; which is applying to the Alberta Government in 2024 to create a PRO.

Though we have had delays, it has worked well with the delay of Bill 23, to allow us to make an application in line with the new legislation passing. The rumors are Spring of 2024 is when we can expect it to be back on the floor of the Legislature.

When reviewing the stakeholder engagement package, keep in mind, that we have developed a jumping off point for further discussion and refinement. These are not set in stone, and we are looking for blind spots.

A lot of the more difficult items for discussion (PRO alignment, mobility, costs, etc) will come in the next stage after our application with the Government of Alberta. There will be more opportunities to provide feedback and guidance on the development of the PRO once we have made our application and are building it out to meet the new legislation.

We will be looking for more volunteers to help fill committees and develop the future PRO in mid 2024.

Lastly, I think a lot of recognition needs to go out to the board who worked hard towards making the Stakeholder Package and Survey.
