Mission Statements

The Mission of the ASHSP is

  1. To serve the public interest by establishing the occupational health and safety (OHS) professions operating in Alberta as fully-recognized professions protected and regulated by law.
  2. To work with stakeholders to create the foundation for competent and ethical practice within Alberta.
  3. To establish a self-regulatory body within Alberta to provide regulatory oversight for the OHS professions.

Vision Statements

The ASHSP Vision includes the following
  1. It is in the public interest to ensure the competency of occupational health and safety professionals.
  2. The occupational health and safety (OHS) professions must be regulated by law to ensure the competency and ethical practices of persons working in these vital professions.
  3. Consistent competency and ethical guidelines must be established to ensure the health and safety of workers, and to support public confidence in the OHS professions.
  4. Establishing the OHS professions as fully-recognized professions, protected and regulated by law, will take a collaborative effort of all stakeholders that share the common public interest goal of ensuring the health and safety of workers.

Objectives

The Objectives of the Society are to

  1. pursue the public interest goal of making the occupational health and safety profession into a legally recognized  profession, including title protection and scope of practice protection to ensure the protection of the health and safety of workers;
  2. work with stakeholders to determine, implement, and maintain the appropriate standards to ensure the competency of those who work within the occupational health and safety profession; and
  3. work with stakeholders to determine, implement, and maintain appropriate standards for ethical behavior and good practice from those who work within the occupational health and safety profession.

These Objectives were approved by special resolution of the membership of the Alberta Society of Health and Safety Professionals on January 23, 2018.
