Stakeholder Consultation

To achieve our goals, ongoing stakeholder consultation is essential. We recognize the importance of gathering insights and feedback from a wide range of stakeholders across Alberta, including industry leaders, professionals, and other regulated professions. Consultations will occur on an ongoing, as-needed basis, ensuring that each stage of our development is informed by the perspectives and needs of those directly impacted.

Why Your Feedback Matters

Industry feedback is crucial for identifying workplace safety concerns, understanding operational challenges, and addressing potential barriers to safe practices. Collaborating with established regulatory bodies also allows us to learn from their experiences, avoid common pitfalls, and refine our processes for effective self-regulation.

By engaging with our stakeholders, ASHSP aims to build a robust regulatory framework that supports a safer, more professional OHS environment in Alberta.

Roadmap to a Profession

In 2018, ASHSP published the Roadmap to a Profession – Creating the Alberta College of Occupational Health and Safety Professionals.  This publication outlines a strategic framework and discusses the need for occupational health and safety (OHS) regulation in Alberta, detailing steps towards creating a self-regulatory body with legal title and scope of practice protections. The roadmap includes a proposed 10-step process covering governance, ethics, training, competency standards, and collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance the professionalism and public accountability of the OHS field in Alberta.

The ASHSP Code of Ethics is the foundational document that outlines the ethical principles guiding ASHSP members. It emphasizes the importance of integrity, public responsibility, and professionalism, establishing standards for members’ interactions with the public, clients, employers, and fellow professionals.
